Do You Know Your Family History?

I do but its cloudy with a chance of Judaism, Farmers and a mix of Heinz 57. My birth mother's history is as follows:

Father: Parent's were farmers that had many children and only a small number survived. His ancestral home is back in Gilnockie, Scotland and there is a museum as well. We haven't had family there in a long time But maybe we have a distant relatives there I don't know. Grandpa recently passed in April of last year.

Mother: Hails from Texas and her grandmother was a Cherokee Indian who never talked about where she came from since it was taboo then. I really don't know much about my grandmother's side.

My birth father's history as follows.

Father: Great Grandparent's fled Russia to come to the States with their parents. In Russia they were diamond fabricators and were very wealthy but since the Kazakh (Cossack's were traditional Ukrainian people) tortured my family they thought it best to come here. They went from riches to rags. They did live a very fruitful life, sadly the Russian and Yiddish language died when my grandfather died in 2006. I am the only one in my family that has learned and taken the time to learn the language.

This is my Great-Grandmother's family(in this picture Great-Great Grandmother is pregnant).

Mother: Originally from Hungary and Ukraine. Her mother's side was of Hungarian descent and her father was from Tul'chyn, Ukraine and immigrated from there to Quebec, Canada. There side has a very good documentation on where they came from how they came here and so forth.

My husband's History is as follows:

Father: Came from Kivertsi, Ukraine ( but the town of Lutsk was only about 10 minutes away). His father was born there as well. His father was married 3 times and he outlived 2 of his wives, the third outlived him but died not long after he did. When we went to Ukraine we saw her grave. His father's family moved here and so most of the family is here in the states.

Mother: Came from Kivertsi {pronounced Key-vert (hard t sound as in vertical) ts (as in sits) ee (as in eat)}. Her mother and father came from the same town and were buried next to each other. After her mother passed her father never remarried. When her and her husband came to the States they had 8 children the youngest being 4 months and the oldest 13, and one born here in the States.

     So where are you from?

A Day of Thanks

Thanksgiving used to be a holiday of giving thanks for the harvest that was bestowed on the farmer and their families. Today it is more of a time to spend with family and friends. Normally on this day I cook and prepare a feast, however this year we decided to not cook. My brother was going to a friends in Colorado for the holiday. In the effect of my brother not here our cousin due to him having epilepsy he doesn't drive so he didn't come. Pasha's brother was not with us as well. Needless to say that this year it was just the three of us. So instead of killing time at home, I informed our friends Andy and Anya that I am inviting my little family of three over to their home for the holiday feast. It was a very enjoyable time.

And Baby Makes 3

I am happy to announce that Aurelie has had her baby girl. She is so beautiful. Here are the states. She was born on 29 October 2012 @ 3:45 am (France time) She weighed in at 3,45 kilos (7 lbs 6 Oz) and 49 cm (19.29 in). She was in labour for about 12 hours and did really great. David is a doting father and I am so happy for them. He helps with the cooking, the washing and the cleaning of the flat which is a great help./ She is breast feeding and so far it is al swell with them. We talked this morning Via Skype and it felt good to hear her voice and see this little one. She looks a lot like David. So now their family of 2 has grown to 4 in a matter of weeks. They also have a cat that is super cute he name is Shooki.

Baby Elise.

Mama & Papa

Congratulations to both of you! Both of you have a special place in my heart and this challenge is the biggest challenge you will face in your life. Take this time to enjoy each other and Elise to the fullest. Love and Bisous Bisous!

New Year

New years is a bad holiday here. No one celebrates it like they do in Europe. Here we see the ball drop and then nothing. When Pasha and I were in Russia there were massive fireworks display, heaping piles of confetti and the president even talks to the people. When I say heaping it means the bags you get from the grocery store about 3 of them full of paper confetti.

I couldn't find it with a translation, however he basically says that last year was bad and lets hope for the new year, new things new news etc.
People dress in their nicest and put make up on and we party it till the next day. The celebration is like Halloween but way more formal and instead of costumes it is black tie event. The atmosphere as a whole is more excited people do things and actually go out and have so much fun. Since finances are tight we had a dinner at home and we got dressed up and had a fantastic time.

Family

Both Pasha and I have huge families. So large that it could easily fill up the Vatican on a Sunday morning for church. I have 1 brother and 4 sisters. None have children nor are they married except for me. However but I have a lot of cousins and Aunts and Uncles. Pasha has 6 sisters and 2 brothers. Since we communicate more with his side this is mainly them. So I will name the mother the father and then the kids and under the kids it will be the children. So what I have tried to stress is for Nastya to learn all the names of her cousins and Aunts and Uncles. Everyone who has kids is married except for one. Having a big family can be taxing, however we make it so much fun we may want to have one as well.

Holidays's

The holidays are a special time for all of us. Whether we celebrate Kwanza, Christmas or Hanukkah its all about family and friends. Pasha has a large family and so do I. He has 6 sisters and 2 brothers. I have 1 brother and 4 sisters. This tribute is to them. I love all of you and you all make our lives full of love and generosity. You have taught me things that no one else has and I love you all for that. You have accepted me as your sister (the only sister in law they have). We may not always get along, hence us all being different. I love you all so much I don't know what I would do with out you all.
